On September 4, 2012, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC) announced the winners of the Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) poster competition.
“The SSRP program gives undergraduates the opportunity to participate in summer research with the Faculty, and the SSRP poster competition is a celebration of their work,” says Dr. Kishor Wasan, professor and associate dean of Research & Graduate Studies. “This summer, 18 students conducted research projects under the supervision of Faculty members, gaining experience that will serve them throughout their careers.”
Andrea Wan (supervised by Dr. Brian Rodrigues), won first place in the poster competition. Her poster, titled "Endothelial Heparanase Secretion Induced by High Glucose Amplifies Fatty Acid Delivery to the Cardiomyocyte", will be presented at the 2013 Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS) Symposium in Vancouver.
Second place was awarded to Donna Leung and Sarah Todd (supervised by Dr. Urs Häfeli and Dr. Katayoun Saatchi), for the poster "Targeted Delivery of Rosiglitazone and Pioglitazone Using Magnetic Nanoparticles". Third place was awarded to Carly Wong (supervised by Dr. Kishor Wasan, Dr. Fady Ibrahim and Olena Sivak).
