After 60 years, The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is looking forward to what the next 60 will bring: more world-class research and the continued success of our undergraduate and graduate programs. Our achievements are the direct result of the commitment of our Faculty and students, alongside that of our donors. Our dedicated alumni, friends and community partners who continue to provide financial support and gifts to our research, awards and bursaries are ensuring that our aspirations are met and surpassed. It is these aspirations that will ensure a healthy future for the citizens of our province and beyond.
"We have both been incredibly enriched by our associations with the Faculty and the University, so it comes naturally to us to be supportive in the ways we can."
Marion Pearson (BScP Class of 1982) and Jim Orr (Emeritus Professor), who have endowed the Marion L Pearson Scholarship and James M Orr Scholarship, respectively, which benefit undergraduate Pharmacy students. Marion and Jim also enjoy the tax benefits of naming UBC the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, and the knowledge that they have made major philanthropic contributions for the future.
"It means a lot to him to be able to contribute to the faculty that allowed him to lead a full and successful life. We all trust that the donation will assist others in achieving their goals."
Bob Blumenauer on his Uncle, Gordon Blumenauer (B.Sc.(Pharm) Class of 1949)
"I attended UBC on student loan, so when alumni wanted to establish a student award in my honour, I asked that it be a bursary fund."
Marguerite Yee (B.Sc.(Pharm) Class of 1969), on the Marguerite Yee Bursary established in 2004 by alumni and friends in recognition of her leadership contribution to the Faculty. The fund assists students entering the second, third and fourth year of Pharmacy.
“We want to inspire students with this scholarship. Maybe this will get them thinking a little bit, becoming more socially conscious, helping others who are not as fortunate.”
Mrs Annemarie Baur, on the Andreas Baur Shoppers Drug Mart Outreach Award established in memory of her late son and Shoppers Drug Mart Associate, Andreas Baur (B.Sc.(Pharm) 2008)
“… I am very grateful to be awarded this scholarship. I thank you for your kindness and generosity. Students like myself appreciate it more than words can describe.”
Carmen Lai, 4th year student
“Since I am from Kelowna and am currently residing in Vancouver, the cost of participating in this program has been somewhat overwhelming. Your generosity is therefore very much appreciated.”
Matthew Carr, 2nd year student
