You can expect to be paid between $19,000 and $21,000 per year for the duration of your program.
This is made up of what we call a “guaranteed stipend” plus potential funding from other sources that may vary each year, but is currently approximately $1500 (subject to Faculty approval). Hence, your total gross income is about $20,500 per year.
The source of these funds varies for students. Most of the stipend comes directly from a supervisor’s research grant. Some students are also required to apply for a Teaching Assistant (TA) position and, as such, part of their stipend comes from a central TA budget. What this means is that if you are a TA, you do not get any more money than the guaranteed stipend.
