The on-line application for the 2012 BC Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is now CLOSED.

The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program online application will be available on August 15, 2011.  The deadline for submission of the application is Midnight PST, October 15, 2011.

 

Once you have learned about the residency programs offered by the various hospitals, you can learn about the application process and find all the information and materials you need to apply on these pages.

BC is a participant in CSHP's "National Matching" process. Applicants should consult the CSHP National website for information and deadlines for the National Matching process.

Applicants will be notified on November 25, 2011 whether they have been offered an interview. Interviews will take place on December 9, 10, 11, and 12, 2011.

Admission Requirements

Graduates of any Canadian pharmacy school are eligible for admission. All candidates must satisfy the requirements for registration with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. Graduates of foreign pharmacy schools must also be a registrant of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada.

Application Instructions

Selection is competitive and is determined using a matching process conducted by the BC Pharmacy Practice Residency Program Committee and CSHP's National Matching Service based on applicant hospital preferences, interviews, letters of reference and academic performance during the undergraduate pharmacy program. ALL APPLICANTS NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE CSHP MATCHING SERVICE.

Applications to the Residency program are to be made solely online and include a non-refundable application fee of $40 payable by Mastercard, Visa, or through "Finances" on the UBC Student Service Centre website.

Current/Former UBC students:

  • Log into the SSC
  • From the Registration drop down menu Current UBC students select "Change of Degree Program/Campus". Former UBC students select "Re-Admission".
  • From the 'Graduate Degree' drop down box, choose "Pharmacy Residency".
  • Choose 'Summer Session starting June 2012' from the "I wish to start attending in:" drop down box
  • Click 'Next' and make the Payment
  • Once this is done access the supplemental application within the Admissions drop down menu on the Student Service Centre.

 

Applicants without a UBC Student ID# must first follow the application steps through BC Post-Secondary Application Service at https://applybc.ca:

  • After PSAS application, applicants will be prompted to create a CWL login account (for those with existing CWL accounts you can login using your existing CWL username and password)
  • Once you create a CWL account or if you already have a CWL account, login to the UBC Online application at https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/index.jsp
  • Applicants choose the "Others" radio button to apply for the program
  • Go through the online application process
  • Applicants are prompted to pay their application fee before submission
  • After successful submission, applicants will be prompted with a confirmation page stating their UBC student number

Letters of Reference

In order to complete your application, you must have 3 (three) letters of reference submitted on your behalf to the BC Pharmacy Practice Residency Program - Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The letters of reference must be submitted electronically on the form provided to jsurewee@mail.ubc.ca in confidence. Your referees have two options for completing the form:

Other important information:

  • If you are applying from outside British Columbia, see Information for Out-of-Province Applicants.
  • Prior to the start of a hospital residency, all residents must show proof of membership in the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and maintain membership through the period of the residency year.
  • All application information must be complete.
  • "Experience" in the application forms refers to employment or volunteer work in areas related to professional practice.
  • Initial Screening Process:
    • only applicants with completed application forms submitted by the deadline will be considered
    • applications will be screened by the BC Pharmacy Practice Residency Program Committee based on the following criteria: (a) letters of reference (b) undergraduate academic record to be mailed to the address given above.  Current and former UBC students do not need to send in official transcripts but you must complete your application using your original UBC student number. (c) previous pharmacy experience (hospital or retail as a technician or pharmacist) and electives (d) interest in hospital pharmacy as a career (i.e. motivation letter and goals) (e) communication skills (written and verbal) (f) work ethic/attitude (g) organizational skills
  • Present yourself at the interview as you would for any important interview: Neatly dressed and on time.
  • The results of the matching process will be emailed to applicants. Letters will subsequently be sent via email to the successful and unsuccessful candidates.
  • After an applicant has been accepted into the program, they will be assessed a $77.29 registration fee (subject to change). A detailed registration form will be sent to accepted applicants at that time.
